Samuel McIntire
Historical Art

Samuel McIntire is a historical artist located in North Carolina. He captures significant events from the past in large fine art oil paintings for private collectors and institutions. He is a Special Forces veteran, life long student of history, and a world traveler. 

Samuel has always been a careful student of history. His love for the stories of the past fueled his interest in art as a way to document the great events of long ago. As a young boy he was obsessed with drawing – always exclusively drawing knights and soldiers. Over the years his skills developed. With his academic background in ancient and medieval history, Samuel honed his craft in carefully researched historical art over the years, becoming what he is today – the foremost historical artist of his generation. His work is held in private and public collections around the world.

Samuel’s desire to deeply understand his subject matter, led him to military service in Special Forces and as a result, much of his oil painting has focused on modern military history, especially the storied past of the special operations community. He also frequently returns to his roots in ancient and medieval history to bring the great battles and figures of the classical world to life in large format paintings.

Every detail of his art is meticulously researched and draws upon thirty years of study in the arms and armor of ancient forces and the tactics and techniques employed in the past. Samuel regularly travels to the battlefields he depicts, traversing the terrain and studying firsthand accounts to determine the correct setting for his work. His academic roots afford him a robust network of historians assisting and collaborating for each painting he undertakes. Samuel’s work is simply put –history brought to life in fine art.
